have you heard of chronic kidney disease? well Over 26 million Americans-1 in 9 adults—have chronic kidney disease, and most are not aware of it. facts about kidney disease:
26 million Americans have chronic kidney disease (CKD) and millions more are at risk.
Kidney disease is common, harmful and treatable.
Each year, 112,000 people are diagnosed with kidney failure. That’s one person every five minutes.
More than 547,000 people in the U.S. are receiving treatment for kidney failure. Patients with failed kidneys need dialysis or a kidney transplant to stay alive.
382,000 currently depend on dialysis to stay alive.
88,000 are on the waiting list for a kidney transplant.
African Americans, Latinos, Asians, Native Americans and the elderly are at increased risk for kidney disease.
The leading risk factors include high blood pressure, diabetes and family history.
Early detection and proper treatment can slow the progress of kidney disease.
People always ask me how donating money will help. About 79 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to vital NKF programs and services:
Kidney Disease Education through public awareness campaigns about risk factors and early detection, and free patient resources for patients and their families
Early Detection and Prevention with NKF’s free community kidney health screenings and risk factor assessments
Advancing Clinical Care by educating healthcare professionals and developing and refining CKD guidelines for diagnosis and treatment
Supporting the Search for Better Treatments by funding millions of dollars into kidney-related clinical research
Advocating for kidney patients with better public policies that benefit kidney patients, transplant recipients, organ donors and their families
Promoting Organ Donation through END THE WAIT, a groundbreaking collaborative initiative to increase organ donation, and the NKF U.S. Transplant Games, an Olympic-style event that showcases the gifts of transplantation and organ donation

Now that you are more educated and know where your donations will be going. why dont you help spread awareness and help fundraise to help out the National Kidney Foundation. Join team ROCK THE WALK at the 2012 SF Kidney Walk. We walk for my mom who was born with only one fully developed kidney along with chronic kidney disease and has had about 3 kidney transplants so far. We will be starting to fundraise a little bit earlier this year (around january) but if you would like to walk with us we would love to have as many people as we can get. so just hit me up, message me, anything and let me know and if you have anymore questions as well just ask away
